VivaTech 2023: Emmanuel Macron says he believes in Open Source and quotes LINAGORA on stage
Funding, supercomputers, AI, LLM, Open Source... A look back at the French President's announcements:
As reported in today's edition of Le Monde, the aim is to close the French "gap", and to do this "we also need to create databases in French. Otherwise we'll be using models with biases inherited from the Anglo-Saxons", stressed the President, seeing the use of the French language in AI as an issue of sovereignty and cultural soft power. To enable AI to be trained, the State will therefore have to "open up" its databases, he said. "We believe in open source "
And what about us? And have been for 23 years...
Additional funding of over €500 million to develop artificial intelligence (AI) in France and create world-class clusters.
On the subject of the backlog in GPU computing power, the Head of State announced that France was going to invest 50 million euros to "quadruple" the capacity of the Jean Zay computer. He also pointed out that France had invested 250 million euros in the European 'exascale' supercomputer project, scheduled for 2025.
The message is clear: make France a world leader in AI and develop the 3rd LLM digital pathway.
The Chairman also mentioned the opinion column published the previous day by Le Point, in which LINAGORA was a co-signatory.
Our Chairman Alexandre Zapolsky, who was in the room, was delighted with these announcements!
