Europe should adopt Open Source for AI

Mark Zuckerberg already spoke out on the subject this summer.
This time he is joined by Daniel EK, CEO of Spotify, the Swedish company.
The two CEOs are convinced that Open Source AI can help European companies and institutions make the most of this new technology.

In their view, Europe needs a new approach with clearer policies and more consistent application.
The 2 CEOs have published a very aggressive joint open letter. They believe that Europe is in danger of falling behind because of incoherent and complex regulations.

While there is now a consensus on the use of Open Source in AI, it is important to remember that many companies are taking advantage of this without developing truly 100% Open Source technologies...

It's like when it comes to food consumption: you have to read the fine print!

The subject is sufficiently important that the Open Source Initiative has recently taken it on itself to clearly define the criteria for Open Source AI.

Nor does LINAGORA miss an opportunity to educate on the subject. To be truly Open Source, AI must :

  • No restrictions on use;
  • Have both the code and the open training model;
  • Datasets also open;

CAUTION: Note that this 3rd condition is almost never present in Big Tech which claims to be Open Source.

The utmost vigilance is therefore called for!

The OpenLLM community meets all 3 criteria.
