Digital sovereignty: Berlin Summit shows the way forward for open-source Europe

Sovereignty Summit in Berlin: a key moment for Europe’s digital future and open source

On 18 November, Berlin hosted the Summit on European Digital Sovereignty, a major event in which our President Alexandre Zapolsky took part.

This Franco‑German summit gathered policymakers, industry leaders, researchers and technology actors around a common goal:
Building a Europe that is more sovereign, more resilient, and less dependent on non‑European technologies.

On this occasion, LINAGORA was able to share its expertise and its vision of a digital world founded on open source, in service of European technological independence.
A strong signal: digital sovereignty is no longer an option, it is a necessity

The discussions highlighted a collective awareness: Europe must accelerate the structuring of its own digital infrastructures, tools and standards if it wants to preserve its strategic autonomy, protect its sensitive data, and guarantee its capacity for innovation.

For LINAGORA, sovereignty means open source: a model that guarantees transparency, technological independence, security and data control. The talks held in Berlin confirm the relevance of this approach and the need to further strengthen the European open‑source ecosystem.

The participation of our President in this summit made it clear that there is a genuine political will to make Europe a major player in the global digital arena, by supporting local, open, and interoperable solutions. Exchanges with institutions and partners present reaffirmed that open source is an indispensable pillar of this sovereignty.

As President Macron emphasized:
"Public and private actors must now accelerate together to fully develop and adopt European technologies.”
This shared vision encourages cooperation among all European digital stakeholders.

We have the talent. We have the vision. It is now time to turn this ambition into concrete, sustainable, and coordinated actions.

At LINAGORA, we will continue to work actively for a free, responsible, and sovereign digital France and Europe.
