Why LINAGORA chose JMAP, e-mail 2.0

Why has LINAGORA opted for JMAP, e-mail 2.0 for its Twake Workplace sovereign suite?

Benoit Tellier, Director of LINAGORA Vietnam, Product Owner Twake Workplace Mail and Chairman Apache James explains it all to GoodTech.info

  1. IMAP has had its day:
    - IMAP was great, it allowed emails to stay on the servers and be classified. It prompted Internet service providers to buy high-priced NetApp storage when the POP3 world was over.
Today, IMAP has had its day!

  2. A major change was needed:
    - Today's users expect smooth, real-time synchronisation on all their devices, use their email on all their devices, and want everything to happen quickly.
Developers, meanwhile, expect an easy-to-use protocol based on well-known transport and formats.
    A major change was needed.

  3. The key role played by LINAGORA :
    - As early as 2016, LINAGORA contributed to a preliminary implementation of JMAP for Apache James, the Apache Foundation's mail server, and adopted this protocol as the basis for its webmail.
In 2020, after the official publication of the JMAP specifications, LINAGORA contributed to updating the Apache James code, making it the first true Open Source JMAP implementation (the submission code was neither Open Source nor available alongside the Cyrus IMAP implementation).
This effort represents 8 man-years of work.
