PARIS OPEN SOURCE AI SUMMIT [POSAIS 2025]

POSAIS has been approved by the French Presidency as part of the Paris AI Action Summit, which will take place on 10 and 11 February 2025.

The aim will be to produce concrete recommendations and results to contribute to the next Paris AI Action Summit.

Artificial intelligence is transforming our world, impacting everything and everyone, and promises to be a game-changer for organisations in the near future. At present, AI is mainly provided by large international commercial companies. A large body of literature discusses the challenges and dangers associated with this oligopolistic development, including risk, bias, discrimination and lack of diversity.

In response, large informal coalitions of stakeholders have decided to challenge these dominant positions by creating and developing an alternative model inspired by Open Source principles. Open Source AI has become a major trend in the industry, with even many digital giants adopting an Open Source approach. While Open Source AI isn't magic, it does offer the potential to address many challenges more effectively than proprietary AI models.

This first edition of the Paris Open Source AI Summit will bring together global leaders and industry players to address these issues. The summit will aim to establish a common set of ideas, vocabulary and definitions to create a shared understanding of the current state of Open Source AI.

Through discussions and workshops, we aim to make Open Source AI tangible and accessible to all, while demonstrating its recent successes. Participants will also exchange ideas on how Open Source AI can address global challenges, including providing AI solutions that benefit humanity, with a focus on the Global South, with the aim of finding a path towards building universal AI. The summit will focus on the public policies and actions needed to harness the positive potential of Open Source AI.

As part of the ‘Road to the Summit’ initiative, POSAIS is a key precursor to the AI Action Summit to be held on 10 and 11 February 2025, under the French Presidency.

By focusing on Open Source AI, we hope to pave the way for broader discussions on the societal, economic and governance impacts of AI.

POSAIS 2025 also marks an important milestone for the OpenLLMEurope community, bringing together its members face-to-face for the first time to foster collaboration.
