LUCIE : the truly Open Source LLM.. Le Point

They talk about us... Le Point

LUCIE, the 100% opensource LLM developed with the OpenLLM France community, with transparent databases, was made available to the general public on Thursday 23 January. What followed on Saturday 25 January was an outpouring of criticism and controversy. But there was also massive support from those in the tech community who know what the development and deployment of AI technology entails.

The media also echo these exchanges, and each time LINAGORA has the opportunity to explain the history, the challenges and, above all, the future of LUCIE.

We would like to say a big THANK YOU to all those who have supported us since Saturday and who are helping us in this much-needed exercise in communication and education. You are wonderful...

Selected excerpts:

  •  Developed by LINAGORA, a French software company, in collaboration with the CNRS and funded by the French General Secretariat for Investment, Lucie is based on training using ethical data, in compliance with European regulations. Lucie aspires to rival well-known generative AIs such as ChatGPT, Grok or Gemini, while complying with European standards, promoting French technological sovereignty and adopting an accessible and transparent model.

  • According to its creators, it is ‘first and foremost an academic research project aimed at demonstrating the capacity to develop generative AI digital commons in France and Europe’, claiming that its use in an educational context is still ‘premature’. ‘The answers generated are therefore not guaranteed and may contain biases or errors. Lucie is certainly an imperfect model, but it is a first step on a long road to building a generative AI that is transparent, sovereign and useful for society’, they defend.
