A look back at Software Freedom Day 2024 with our LINAGORIANS in Vietnam on the theme of ‘ Open Source Software, Open Data & AI: Key to Enhancing Information Management Efficiency ’.

Software Freedom Day 2024 was held at theVietnam National University of Social Sciences and Humanitieson 28 September 2024.

LINAGORA was a "Silver Sponsor" and the teams were mobilised for the occasion with the aim of spreading and celebrating the values of Free Software and Open Source, particularly at a time when AI is booming.

In this spirit of spreading and sharing values, this year's event has broadened its scope to include social science students, rather than focusing solely on IT students as in previous years.

For the first time, Software Freedom Day was held at one of the country's leading social science universities.
This is a major milestone for Software Freedom Day, which offers students the opportunity to explore areas related to information technology, free software, open technology and open science.

This year's theme - Open Source Software, Open Data & AI: Key to Enhancing Information Management Efficiency - is indeed particularly crucial. We need to understand that we have now entered an era in which data feeds artificial intelligence, opening up a whole new paradigm in which the use of truly Open Source and transparent technologies has become more essential than ever.

Indeed, the combination of free software, open data and AI is set to improve information management and create more opportunities for innovation and new ways of solving the global challenges facing society as a whole.

This was precisely the point made by our President Alexandre ZAPOLSKY a few months ago, when he spoke at FOSSASIA, stressing the need to create the conditions for trust in AI technologies and the key role played by Open Source in this area:

" Our lives are enriched by the contributions of artificial intelligence. We are at the beginning of this phenomenon. Open Source AI is intelligence that is used freely without restriction. It is a model that we understand how it is built, so we know how it is trained. This allows us to trust the AI. Trust is crucial because AI will become increasingly present in all aspects of our lives.
