Alexandre Zapolsky’s Audace: 26 years of a French open-source revolution

The Audace Review devotes several pages to LINAGORA and to the story of its founder, Alexandre Zapolsky.

It is a genuine honour for us, especially because the magazine is led by Natacha Polony, whose reflections on France’s industrial and cultural challenges we have followed for a long time, and whom we recently had the pleasure of hosting at Villa GoodTech for a lunch organised together with the Forces Françaises de l’Industrie.

But beyond this spotlight, the article tells one story above all: that of our President and therefore the story of LINAGORA itself. We will exceptionally allow ourselves to reuse here the term that gives the magazine its name: l’audace.

The audacity of a young entrepreneur who, more than 26 years ago, was convinced that France could not forever depend on closed, foreign technologies. Audacity, too, at a time when speaking about free software, numerical sovereignty, was almost an intellectual fringe activity. Some saw it as idealism; others, as an impossible gamble against the American giants. In short, a David‑vs‑Goliath story

And yet, a quarter of a century later, those topics have become central. What once seemed peripheral now shapes the debates around cloud computing, artificial intelligence, collaborative tools, data, and even critical infrastructures.

The bold gamble of our President, who even forged his own internship contracts so he could devote all his time to building the first bricks of LINAGORA, convinced that he had not a minute to lose, has ultimately proved visionary.

And time, precisely, we have not wasted.

LINAGORA has never stopped “DO”. We are determined to build and offer alternatives in the field of AI just as we do with linto.ai, open‑rag.ai, and more recently the new foundational models Luciole and, of course, twake.ai.

Our technologies have evolved, our expertise as well, but the original conviction has never changed

Thank you to Natacha Polony and the L’Audace team for this portrait and for the space given to these subjects that, more than ever, shape the future of French digital.
