Open Source Initiative (OSI)
Here's a look back at the visit of Stefano MAFFULLI ‘s team from the Open Source Initiative (OSI) for 2 days of intense work under the guidance of Mer JOYCE , with the aim of producing a “White Paper” on Open Source AI.
All the strategic aspects were addressed on the basis of participative, collaborative and collective work, bringing together representatives from all over the world:
- Definition
- Governance
- Control
Naturally, the Villa Good Tech is the natural place to host such exchanges and give everyone a particularly memorable experience.
The Open Source Initiative (OSI) is a global not-for-profit corporation created to promote and defend the benefits of Open Source and to build bridges between the various stakeholders in the Open Source communities. The Open Source Initiative is a California public benefit corporation founded in 1998.
Actively involved in building Open Source communities, education and public interest, OSI's mission remains essentially to promote awareness and the importance of non-proprietary software.
OSI's mission is to reach out to developers and users of open source software and to discuss with decision-makers in the public and private sectors how open source technologies, licences and development models can best deliver real economic and strategic benefits to organisations.
As the leading voice for open source policies and principles, OSI is helping to build a world where the freedoms and opportunities offered by open source software can benefit everyone.
As such, OSI supports institutions and individuals working together to create communities of practice in which the open source ecosystem thrives.
Reminder: Open Source is a software development method that harnesses the power of peer review and the transparency of the process. The promise of Open Source is:
- Better quality;
- Greater reliability;
- Greater flexibility ;
- Lower costs and an end to predatory supplier lock-in
One of OSI's most important activities is standardisation, which consists of maintaining the definition of Open Source for the benefit of the community. The aim is to create a bond of trust around which developers, users, companies and governments can organise global cooperation on Open Source.
